Hello! Thank you for your interest in trying out for the 2026 Atlanta United Special Olympics Unified team! Please read the following before registering.

MLS WORKS (Major League Soccer’s Social Responsibility platform) and Special Olympics have teamed up to promote an environment of social inclusion through the Unified Sports Soccer Exchange Program.

This program brings together Special Olympics athletes (neurodiverse individuals with autism, sensory processing disorders, intellectual disabilities, etc.) and Unified partners (neurotypical individuals without an intellectual disability).

The Atlanta United Unified soccer team will represent Atlanta United as they play multiple home and away matches, scrimmages, activities and other inclusive experiences through the lens of soccer.

Atlanta United will hold an open tryout for those Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners aged 16 to 25 years old. Please see below for full information.

This is NOT a tryout for the professional team, Atlanta United 2's, Academy, or RDS program. There is NO opportunity to be seen by coaching staff from any of these programs at the Unified team tryout.

TRYOUT INFORMATION:

You must be a resident of the state of Georgia to try out for the Atlanta United Special Olympics Unified team.

  • Date: Monday, November 10th
  • Check-In Time: 6:00pm
  • Tryout Time: 6:30-8:00pm
  • Location: Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground - 861 Franklin Gateway SE, Marietta, GA 30067

Deadline to register for tryouts is November 7th at 5:00 p.m. More information about parking and check-in location will be sent on November 7th

Please read ALL the following before registering.

By registering for the Atlanta United Unified 2026 Team tryouts, you are acknowledging that IF you are selected to the 2026 Atlanta United Unified Team:

  • You will be always representing Atlanta United and the Atlanta United Unified Team from the moment you are selected until you are no longer on the team
  • You will be held to a high standard of respect, commitment and character

You will be required to:

  • Attend weekly training sessions at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground
  • Attend Media Day, Signing Day, travel to away matches, attend home match activities and other team events
  • Transport yourself (or have a parent transport you) to all activities, except for away matches where the team requires out of state travel
  • Have a cell phone and/or email address where you and your parent can receive communication
  • Be comfortable participating with media presence including but not limited to interviews, photo shoots, videos, local media coverage, and more

Below are the criteria for which Special Olympic Athletes and Unified Partners will be evaluated:

Status & Age (As of Jan. 1, 2026):

  • Special Olympics Athlete (16-25 years old): You are a registered or can be registered as an individual with intellectual disabilities per Special Olympics
  • Unified Partner (16-21 years old): You are registered or can be registered as an individual without an intellectual disability per Special Olympics AND You are not signed to an amateur, collegiate, semi-professional or professional team

Characteristics of a good Unified teammate:

  • Ability to work well with others and value teammates of all abilities
  • High level commitment to the Unified experience and to teammates
  • Understand and possess skills of the game and rules of soccer
  • Be respectful in listening to teammates, coaches, and from office staff
  • Empower Special Olympic athletes for success on and off the field
