Starting XI and roster notes: Summer signings all in for Portland match

The nightcap is here! Stay up, 17s, because we've still got just under an hour until kickoff between Atlanta United and Portland Timbers. The two less-familiar foes will face off at 10:30 p.m. ET as the 5-Stripes look for a much-needed three points in a playoff race with time slipping away. 

The visiting Atlanta United starting XI will feature all five of the club's Secondary Transfer Window signings for the first time since they arrived. Breel Embolo, Mauricio Amaro, Giuliano Galoppo, Paulo Díaz and Júnior Alonso make up the spine of the side. 

Galoppo is readying for his club debut, starting in the midfield alongside Amaro and Tristan Muyumba. The rest of the new signings are getting their feet set. Embolo starts his third consecutive match with 

In defense, Díaz rejoins the back line along with starters from last time out in Alonso, Tomás Jacob and Elías Báez. Lucas Hoyos starts in goal to round out a unit that kept a clean sheet last time out against D.C. United. 

Embolo stars up front alongside captain Miguel Almirón and Alexey Miranchuk. The chance creation from the trio has been there, but final product will dictate if Atlanta United can claim three points on the night.

Roster Notes:

-- Giuliano Galoppo, Atlanta United's loan signing from River plate, is prepared to make his first appearance and start with the 5-Stripes. The 27-year-old Argentine will occupy a spot in the midfield.  

-- Miguel Almirón has now created multiple chances in 11 consecutive matches, a career streak for him. He surpassed Thiago Almada for the longest such run with multiple chances created for Atlanta United in its history. 

-- Breel Embolo starts up front for the third consecutive match. The forward has had a knack for drawing fouls from opposing defenses, winning 13 of them in his first three matches. That's the second-highest total through a player's first three matches in MLS history since 2010. 

-- Lucas Hoyos starts his 26th match of the season, fresh off his second clean sheet of the season. Both of them came against D.C. United. 

-- The 5-Stripes are producing plenty of chances in their last four matches. Over that stretch, they have the fourth most expected goals in MLS with 9.31. 

-- Atlanta United is 3-1-2 (W-L-D) all time against Portland, with their most recent battle being a 5-1 win for the 5-Stripes in 2023.
