ATLANTA (Oct. 17, 2025) - MLS NEXT Pro announced that Atlanta United 2’s Patrick Weah was awarded MLS NEXT Pro Goal of the Year for the 2025 season for his spectacular scorpion kick against Carolina Core on Sept. 13. The award was determined by a fan vote on MLS NEXT Pro’s Instagram. Weah earned the award over St. Louis City’s Myhki Joyner with 58% of the vote.

In the 15th minute of the match against Carolina Core, Atlanta earned a free kick on the right, 30 yards away from goal. Ryan Carmichael curled the in-swinging set piece into the box, where Weah met it level with the penalty spot. The forward acrobatically dove forward and flicked the ball with his heel, sending it into the bottom right corner of the net to score.

Weah scored a team-high nine goals and added two assists in the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season. After signing for ATL UTD 2 on Jan. 24, 2025, Weah started 11 of his 24 games played this season, becoming a mainstay in the starting lineup in the second half of the season. Weah’s performance earned him a call-up to the First Team on Oct. 11 against Inter Miami CF. In the 84th minute, Weah came on to make his debut for Atlanta United.
